Kindness Will Build Team Security
Kindness is a quality we develop on purpose. It is something that you do because of who you are and how you think. It is a choice to speak kindly or coldly, to act with kindness or with harshness. Being unkind, uncaring or simply cold can hurt your progress and ruin the best of teams.
Within a team, kindness is a quality that is highly valued. Knowing that your team members choose to be kind regardless of how they might feel, leads to people feeling secure. Kindness is a quality to aspire to, to esteem, recognise and reward.
- Who deserves or needs your kindness today? Be intentional – plan to say or do something kind for them.
- How can you build security in your team by modelling a kind behaviour?
- Is kindness your habit? If not, what three things could you do repeatedly to improve and turn it into a habit?
- Who is the most appropriate person to give you feedback in this area?
Being kind to yourself and your team will empower all involved to perform better. We value ourselves and others more when we relate in a kind manner. Team or group performance improves when everyone speaks respectfully and kindly.
Practice being kind to yourself. It’s amazing how much better you will speak to others when you speak to yourself in a respectful, kind manner.
And before you move on to the next email – write down the name of the person who needs your kindness today on a note. Write down what you will say or do to them the next time you see them!
