Tell the Truth.
One habit that is key to building a successful life is the habit of telling the truth. The whole truth, not just part of the truth.
It means not exaggerating. That's more than the truth. It's making sure we're not telling part of the information that can mislead others and lead them to a different conclusion. It's saying it like it really is.
In court we say, I promise to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God. Yes it is almost a divine characteristic when you are known for being a person who tells the truth all the time.
Why is it good to tell the truth? The truth is a fact! It's accurate. You're dealing with reality, not one person's version of reality. It's a solid foundation.
You can build something on the truth because it is a solid foundation. It's hard to build on a lie. It's hard to advance if you don't clearly know what you're starting with.
The truth is the basis of trust and integrity. When you are a person of your word it makes you highly regarded and a very valuable team player.
I love this quote:
The truth may hurt for a little while but a lie goes on hurting.
Get better at telling the truth by asking these questions - regardless of how uncomfortable it is:
- What trips you up most often in regards to telling the truth?
- What help do you need to grow in this area?
- Who is allowed to hold you to account?
- Where do you need the most practice?
- Who will you invite into your inner circle so you can become the best version of you?
I'd love to hear your comments on why you struggle with telling the truth - or - your stories of how telling the truth has made a difference in your work and relationships...
Let's make this world a better place!
